GMAT English Grammar Rules

noun person, place, thing or idea
verb expresses action
adjective word that modifies a noun
adverb word that modifies a verb, adjective, or another adverb
preposition a word that notes the relation of a noun to an action or a thing
phrase group of words acting as a single part of speech. A phrase missing either a subject or a verb or both.
prepositinal a group of words beginning with a preposition. Like any phrase, a prepositional phrase does not contain both a subject and a verb.
pronoun a word that takes the place of a noun.
clause group of words that contains a subject and a verb
