What events occur as a result of upwelling? Surface currents flow away from the shore. The California Current moves water south from the North Pacific. Plants get the mineral they need for photosynthesis.

How does the gulf stream current affect the temperature of coastal climates? It makes them warmer.
How does the California current affect the climate for coastal cities in California? It makes them cooler.
