Hernando Cortes was born in Spain to a poor family in 1531. sailed to America to seek fortune. picked to lead the expidition to Mexico. died in 1547.
Henry Hudson in 1609he set sail from Europe, under the Dutch flag, in hopes to find a new route to China. arriving at present day New York. he sailed up the river that now bears his name. he never found a route to China.
New France a fur-trading post established in 1608 that became the first permanent French settlement in North America.
Plantation a large farm that raises caash crops.
slavery the practice of holdong a person in bondage for labor.
African Diaspora the forced removal of Africans from their homelands to serve as slave labor in the Americas.
Middle Passage the middle leg of the triangular trade route- the voyage from Africa the the Americas- that brought captured Africans into slavery.
Racism the belief that some people are inferior because of their race.
Columbian exchange taking goods from Africa the Carribean, and Europe to the New World.
