how does the motion of molecules change during melting? the molecules are vibrating so fast from the increased thermal energy in the environment that they break free from their fixed positions.
How does the motion of molecules change during freezing? The substances loses energy to the environment causing them to move more slowly - so slowly they stick together in fixed positions
How does the motion of molecules change during condensation? the molecules lose energy to the environment causing them to move more slowly and start to stick together in the form of a liquid
How does the motion of molecules change during boiling? the increase in energy from the environment causes the molecules to move so quickly where they break free from each other and become a gas
How does the motion of molecules change during sublimation? substance gains so much energy from environment that the particles vibrate so much they break free of each other and become a gas (skipping the slower moving liquid phase)

How does the law of conservation of energy relate to a phase change - freezing, condensation, sublimation (from gas to solid) Thermal energy moves away from matter, slowing their motion, which creates the bonds between them and causes a new state of matter. no energy is destroyed which follows the law of conservation of energy.
