compilation of math terms for the first semester

Variables A letter that represents an unknown value that can change.
Coefficient The number that is multiplied by a variable.
Constant An amount that does not change.
Polynomial An algebraic expression containing 1 or more terms.
Monomial An expression with exactly 1 term.
Binomial An expression with exactly 2 terms.
Trinomial An expression with exactly 3 terms.
Diameter The distance from one side of a circle to the other.
Radius The distance from the center of a circle to the outside.
Rational Numbers Numbers that end (terminate) or repeat (pattern).
Integers Whole numbers and their opposites: ...-3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3...
Natural/Counting Numbers Numbers used for counting: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5...
Irrational Numbers Decimals that never end (non-terminating)and never repeat (non-repeating).
Expression A string of numbers, letters and symbols grouped together to represent the value of something.
Equation A mathematical sentence showing the equality of two expressions.
Inequality A mathematical statement that compares two expressions.
