Geometry Terms

*A location, shown as a dot. points
*A set of all points. space
*A long, thin continuous mark Types: straight, parallel, horizontal, vertical, intersecting, perpendicular, lines of symmetry, etc. lines
*Three or more points that lie on the same straight line. collinear
*A flat surface. plane
*Points that do not lie on the same line. non-collinear
* Geometric objects/figures that lie on the same plane coplanar
*Geometric objects/figures that do not lie on the same plane. non-coplanar
*To meet a some point, a common point or line. intersect
*The set of points consisting of two endpoints and all points in between the endpoints. segment
*A line that has a starting point, but it does not have an ending point. ray
*Two rays with a common endpoint that form a line. opposite ray
*The distance from one end to the other end *How long something is. |a-b| length of a segment
*Having the same shape and the same size Example: A cube has congruent faces. congruent segments
*The point in the middle of a line segment midpoint of segment
*To divide in two equal sections *To cut in half bisector of a segment
*If three points A, B, & C are collinear and B is between A and C, then AB+BC =AC. segment addition postulate
*Lines that do not lie in the same plane in space, so that they cannot be parallel or intersect. skew
*Lines that are the same distance apart at all points. They never intersect. parallel
