Definition: Direct Variation Function y=kx^n
Four Steps to Solve Variation Function 1) Write equation 2) Find constant 3) Rewrite equation with constant 4) Evaluate
Definition: Inverse Variation Function y=k/x^n
The Fundamental Theorem of Variations a) If y varies directly as xn (that is y=kxn) and x is multiplied by c, then y is multiplied by cn b) If y varies inversely as xn (that is y=xn/k) and x is multiplied by a nonzero constant c, the y is divided by cn.
Theorem: Direct Variation Slope y=kx with constant slope k
Slope y2-y1/x2-x1
Asymptote A line approached by the graph of a function.
