What is a producer? Organisms that use sunlight to make food
What is a consumer? Organisms that eat other organisms to obtain energy
What is a Carnivore? Organisms that eat only animals
What is a Herbivore? Organisms that eat only plants
What is an Omnivore? Organisms that eat both plants and animals
What is a Scavenger? Onivores that eat dead things
What is a Decomposer? Gets energy by breaking down dead organisms
On which level of the Enegry Pyramid is the largest? The bottom level.
Which type of organism is located at the bottom of the Energy Pyramid? Producer.
What is Ecology? Te study of the interactions of living organisms and their environment.
What is a biotic factor? Describes the living factors.
Give an example of a Biotic Factor a squirrel, a plant, an alligator.
What is an Abiotic factor? Describes the non-living parts of the environment.
Give an example of an abiotic factor. The temperature, water or rocks.
What is a population in an ecosystem? a group of organisms of the same species that live and interact with each other.
Give an example of a population. A group of apes living in a tree.
What is a community within an ecosystem? All the populations of different species that live and interact with each other.
Give an example of a community. In the jungle, all the animals that live together such as the jaguars and the monkeys.
What is an ecosystem? A community of organisms and their abiotic environment.
What is a predator? An organism that hunts another for food
What is a prey? the food that the predator consumes.
What are the 5 levels of the environment from least to greatest? Organism, population, Community, Ecosystem & Biosphere.
What is a food chain? Shows the energy flow from one organisms to another
What is a food web? Shows the different feeding relationships and how they are all connected.
What is an Energy Pyramid? It is a triangular diagram that shows the energy loss from one organisms to the next.
What is carrying capacity? It is the largest population that an environment can support.
What are the 3 types of symbiotic relationships? Mutualism, Commensalism & Parasitism.
What are limiting Factors? resources that become scarce and keep a population from growing larger.
Which way do arrows point in a food chain or a food web? They point in the direction of the flow of energy.
