Scientific Method CB


1) State the Problem- Written as an Investigative (operational) Question Include IV and DV in the Question
2) Hypothesize or Predict- Explain what you think may happen OR suggest an answer why it will happen. Write hypothesis in the form of an If.... Then.... Because.... Statement. Be sure to give the reason!
3) Plan your Experiment- 3A) List the materials needed:
3B) PROCEDURE -Write a step-by-step that another person can easily follow. -Include any safety steps needed. -Include labeled diagrams of the set-up -Describe your experimental control group, your standard for comparison. -Describe IV & DV -Describe CV
4) Gather Data: -Describe observations using your senses. (Qualitative) -Describe plans to measure and/or estimate. (Qualitative= Numbers)
5) Record and Organize Data: -Please include all: Charts, graphs, and diagrams. -How will you record data during an experiment? -How will you organize your data after the experiment (Pie chart, Bar Graph, Line Graph)
6) Analyze Data: -To prove the hypothesis, look at the DATA for: a) Trends b) responses c) patterns. How will you know if you need more information?
7) Conclude: A complete and total summary/ review of your experiment, -What will happen if the hypothesis is proved true? -What is your alternate hypothesis, if your original hypothesis was incorrect? -What FUTURE EXPERIMENT might you preform?
