Julius Caesar | Ruled with absolute power. Genius at military strategy. Granted Roman citizenship to many people in provinces. Expanded Senate. Senate eventually stabbed him to death because he had gained too much power. |
Consul | Leader who commanded armies and directed government. Served for 1 yr and could not be re-elected. Could be vetoed. |
Senate | -Aristocratic -Exercised great influence over foreign and domestic property |
Triumvirate | A group of three rulers |
Augustus | Previously known as Octavian |
Pax Romana | The period of peace and minimal expansion by military force experienced by the Roman Empire |
Constantine | Roman emperor who had a vision of Christ while at battle and made it legal to be a Christian in Rome |
Diaspora | Jews being spread across the lands to prevent rebellion |
Colesium | Large advanced dome-like buildings used to watch gladiators fights, plays, and chariot races. |
First Triumvirate | Caesar, Pompey, and Crassus |
Second Triumvirate | Augustus/Octavian, Lepidus, and Antony |
Diocletion | Roman emperor. Separated and enlarged the Empire's civil and military services. |
Germanic Invasions | The Germanics invaded the Roman Empire because they were being pushed out of their own land by the Huns. |
Greco-Roman Culture | Greek and Roman culture that still exists in Western culture so as building structures and types of government. |

Pompeii | Town located near a mountain that some suspected was a volcano. Those who did not evacuate earlier were petrified. |
