8th grade vocab

Scientific Model a physical or mental idea that allows us to create explanations of how something may work
Adaptation a trait or behavior that helps an organism survive and reproduce in a particular environment.
Natural selection the process that explains survival through adaptation, and shows how species of animals can change over time.
Climate an ever-changing condition of Earth’s environment
Epicenter the point of Earth’s surface directly above where the energy is released in an earthquake. Energy that reaches the surface is greatest at this point.
Minerals natural, solid materials found on Earth. They are the building blocks of rock and each has a certain chemical make-up.
Vibration a repeated back-and-forth or up-and-down motion.
Frequency a measure of how often something (like waves) pass a point in a certain amount of time.
Refraction a bending of waves (like light) caused by a change in their speed as they pass from one medium to another.
Reflection the bouncing back of a wave when it meets a surface or boundary that does not absorb the entire wave’s energy.
