Ch. 1 definitions

citizen A person who lives in and belongs to a community
community A group of people who live and work together in the same place
business An activity in which workers make or sell goods or do work for others.
goods Products, or things that can be bought or sold
museum A place where objects from other times and places can be seen.
biography The story of a person's life.
needs Things we all must have, such as food, clothing, and a place to live
natural resources Materials from nature, such as wood and stone, that people can uses.
depend To rely on for help.
service Work that someone does for somone else.
picture graph A graph that uses pictures or symbols to stand for the numbers of things
bar graph A graph tha tuses bars of different lengths to stand for amounts or numbers of things
custom A way of doing something
culture A way of life shared b members of a group
ethnic group A group of people who share the same language and culture.
holiday A special day for remembering a person or an event that is important to the people of a community
heritages A set of values and traditions handed down to a group from those who have lived before them.
cooperate To work helpfullly together
consequences Something that happens because of what a person does
government A group of elected citizens who solve problems and make laws for a community
mayor A leader of a community government
judge A person from the community who is chosen to work as a leader in the courts
fair The Same for everyone
responsibility Something a person should do because it is necessary and important
peace A time of Quiet and calm
problem Something that makes life difficult
solution A way to solve a problem
