Procedure for exam

Review medical record/chart get medical history, date symptoms began, chest x-ray report, documentation of weight loss, medications
Interview patient alertness, cooperative, combative, does patient acknowledge presence of swallow diff, lef or right sided neglect, impulsivity, any other behavioral characteristics
Lip function reduced lip sensation, strength, range of motion, drooling, biting lip, buccal cavity residue
Cheeck function reduced cheeck sensation, strength and range of motion, pocketing food in buccal cavity, biting cheeck
Tongue function reduced sensation, strength, ROM, inability to manipulate and form bolus, food residue on hard palate, residue in buccal cavity
Soft palate function reduced sensation, strength, ROM, decreased gag reflex, hypernasal speech, nasal reflux, premature spillage of food over back of tongue triggering premature pharyngeal swallow
Laryngeal function decreased lifting of larynx, hoarse, wet, gurgly voice quality, coughing
Mandible function rotary chew
Order of food presented for patient to swallow pudding, honey thick, nectar, thin liquids, mech soft, regular food
