| precipitation | water falls from clouds |
| divide | a ridge or continous line of high land from which water flows from different directions |
| drainage basin | an area into which all of the water on one side of a divide flows |
| turnover | the rising and sinking of cold and warm water |
| iceberg | a mass of floating ice |
| eutrophication | an increase in nutrients in a lake or pond |
| groundwater | water held underground |
| permeable | a substance that liquids can flow through |
| impermeable | a substance that liquids cannot flow through |
| water table | the top of the region that is saturated, or completely filled with water |
| aquifier | an underground layer of permeable rock or sediment that contains water |
| spring | a flow of water from the ground at a place where the land dips into water |
| artesian well | where water goes to the top because of pressure |
