QuestionAnswer
Normal HR, RR, BP levels 60-100, 10-20, 120-130/80-85
CBC tests for RBC levels and WBC levels: RBC = Hematocrit & Hemoglobin
Hematocrit = Total % of RBC within CBC, normal= MALE 40-54% FEMALE 38-47% PREG 33-47% (less due to elevated fluid levels)
Elevated hematocrit levels = Dehydration, Polycythemia, Shock.
Lowered hematocrit levels = Over-hydration, Anemia, Leukemia, Cirrhosis, HypErthyroidism.
Hemoglobin = Gas carrier within the blood. O2 from Lungs to body CO2 out of body. MALE 13.5- 18g/dl. FEMALE 12-16g/dl. PREG 11-16 (less due to elevated fluid levels)
Elevated Hemoglobin levels = Dehydration, Heart Disease, Marrow problem, CHF, COPD, High Altitudes.
Lowered Hemoglobin levels = Anemia, HypErthyroidism, Cirrhosis, blood loss, chemotherapy/ Marrow problem.
CBC tests for RBC levels and WBC levels: WBC = 5,000-10,000/mm3 (Neutrophils, Lymphocyte, Monocyte, Eosinophil, Basophil) <2500 & >30,000 = :(
Neutrophils = 55-70%. Bacteria killers: increase in acute infections.
Lymphocytes = 20-40%. immune response T & B cells: increase during antigen-antibody reactions. Auto immune disorders.
Monocytes = 2-8%. necrotic tissue and micro organisms: increases in chronic infections
Eosinophils = 1-4%. Allergic responses: increase in allergic reactions.
Basophils = 0.5-1%. Allergic responses: increase in allergic reactions.
Platelet count = measures blood clotting capabilities. 150,000-400,000/mm3 <50,000 & >100,000 = :(
Elevated Platelet count = Cancer, trauma, heart disease, cirrhosis. (results in ^ blood clots)
Lowered Platelet count = Anemia, allergic conditions, chemotherapy. (results in ^bleeding)
Cholesterol total levels should = under 200mg/dl includes HDL, LDL, VLDL (more then 240 = high risk)
HDL levels shoud be = more then 60mg/dl (less then 40 in men & 50 in women= bad)
LDL levels should be = less then 100 (160mg/dl = high risk heart disease)
Triglyceride Levels should be = 10-190mg/dl (150 = optimal) (200-498 = bad)
Elevated cholesterol/ lipid levels = DM, Cardiovascular disease, nephrosis, hypOthyroidism. Hyperlipidemia
Lowered cholesterol/lipid levels = liver disease, hypErthyroidism, fat malabsorption, pernicious anemia, severe infection, terminal stage cancer.
Arterial Oxygen content level = 15-23% vol
elevated arterial o2 level = polycythemia,
lowered arterial o2 level = copd
glucose level = 70-110mg/dl in blood. Should be NEGATIVE in urine.
elevated glucose level= DM, Acute stress, HypErthyroidism, liver disease, nephritis.
Lowered glucose level= Addisons, HypOthyroidism, pancreatic cancer.
Liver Function test = HEPATIC PANEL = ALT, AST, ALP, Billirubin, Albumin, GGT
ALT = 4-36 units/L (high levels detect hepatits, disease progress, drug toxicity, tumor, burns, jaundice, pancreatic disease, mono, trauma)
ALP = 30-120 units/L (bile ducts-- high in gallstones, blockages, injury, bone disease, tumors, low in malnutrition, scurvy)
AST = 0-35 units/L (high levels detect LIV HT skeletal mm injuries-- MI, BURNS, HEAT STROKE, TRAUMA, LOW LEVELS DETECT DIABETIC KET, renal disease. tells you if had MI
Billirubin = broken down hemoglobin = total 0.3-1.0, direct (conj) 0.1-0.3. (high = gall stones, liver metastisism)
Albumin = 3.5-5 (elevated= dehydration, nephritis, fever, trauma, anemia, leukemia. lowered = malnutrition, preg, liver disease, severe burns)
Total protein = 6.4-8.3 (fights infection)
GGT = 8-38units/ L: (femlale under 45 = 5-27 units/L) elevated in alcohol related liver disease, MI, alcoholic pancreatitis, infection of mono or reyes.
Iron levels = 60-150 (increases in liver dis, anemia. decreses in iron def anemia)
