Theory of Plate Tectonics The continents were all one super continent.
Pangaea The single landmass that broke apart 200 million years ago and gave rise to today's continents.
Alfred Wagener Developed the theory of plate tectonics and pangea.
Divergent Boundary A plate boundary where two plates move away from each other.
Convergent Boundary A plate boundary where two plates move toward each other.
Transform Boundary A plate boundary where two plates move past each other in opposite directions.
Constructive Forces A force that builds up mountains and landmasses on Earth's surface.
Destructive Forces A force that wears away the earth's surface.
Mid-ocean Ridge The undersea mountain chain where new ocean floor is made (is a divergent plate boundary).
Sea-floor Spreading Process where molten material adds new oceanic crust to the ocean floor.
