Math Vocabulary

Unit 5

Concavity the curvature that any non-linear function exhibits. There are 2 types: Concave Up- looks like a smiley face; Concave Down- looks like a frowny face
Horizontal Asymptote the line that a graph will approach as the x-values go to the far left (-infinity sign) or the far right (infinity sign), but the graph will approach this line but not necessarily touch this line
Exponential Function any function where the independent variable is in the exponent, a^x where a is a real number
Growth Rate the change in a number, population, or measurement over time
Exponential Decay a function that shows decreasing at a decreasing rate
Exponential Growth a function that shows increasing at an increasing rate
Average Rate of Change the change in the y-values divided by the change in the x-values
