### Geometry

TermDefinition
Polygon Simple, closed figure formed by 3 or more straight lines.
Quadrilateral A polygon with 4 sides and 4 angles.
Parallelogram A quadrilateral whose opposite sides are parallel and congruent (equal).
Rectangle A parallelogram with 4 right angles.
Trapezoid A quadrilateral with one pair of parallel sides called "bases". The other sides are called "legs".
Rhombus A parallelogram with 4 congruent (equal) sides.
Square A rectangle with 4 congruent (equal) sides and 4 right angles.
Coordinate Plane A plan having a vertical and horizontal number line intersecting at zero.
Quadrants One of the four areas on a coordinate plane.
Ordered Pairs A pair of numbers
Origin The point at which the x-axis and y-axis intersect on the coordinate plane.
Transformations A movement of a geometric figure on the coordinate plane.
Translations A transformation where a figure is slid horizontally, vertically, or both.
Rotations A transformation where a figure turns around a fixed point.
Reflections A transformation where a figure is flipped over a line.
Dilations A transformation where a figure changes size based on a scale factor. The figure either enlarges or shrinks.
Clockwise One direction to rotate a figure in the plane...from left to right.
Counter-Clockwise One direction to rotate a figure in the plane...from right to left.
Vertical The y-axis or moving up (positive) or down (negative).
Horizontal The x-axis or moving left (negative) or right (positive).
Axis A line used as a reference point in Geometry.
Scale Factor A number used as a multiplier to enlarge or shrink a figure.
Prime The symbol used to indicate the ordered pairs of an image after a transformation.
Isoceles Trapezoid A trapezoid where the legs are congruent (equal).
