aneroid blood pressure monitor Type of monitor that indicates varying blood pressure using a pointer in a gage.
CLIA-waived The Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment of 1988 established that some clinical tests be exempted from certain laboratory requirements.
colostomy Sergical formation of an artificial anus by connecting the colon to an opening in the abdominal wall.
continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion Delivery of insulin through a pump device that provides the medication 24 hours a day.
control solution A type of solution that mimics blood and that is used to test the accuracy of a blood glucose meter and test strips.
durable medical equipment Reuseable equipment used in treatment of illness or injury (e.g., wheelchairs, walkers, blood glucose meters).
hemoglobin A1 Blood test that measures the amount of glucose attached to hemoglobin in red blood cells. Provides an estimate of blood glucose control over the previous 2-3 months.
insulin pen Portable device that contains a prefilled cartridge of insulin.
lancet A sharp-pointed instrument used to make small incuisions, commonly used to obtain blood samples for blood glucose monitoring.
nondurable medical equipment Single-use equipment for a medical purpose (e.g., gloves, dressings, syringes and needles).
orthotic Device designed for the support of week or ineffective joints or muscles.
orthopedic devices Equipment used for a deformity, disorder, or injury of skeleton and associated structures.
orthotic devices Equipment that can prevent or correct a physical deformity or malfunction, or that can support a weak or deformed portion of the body.
ostomy An operation (as a colostomy, ileostomy, or urostomy) to create an artificial passage for bodily elimination.
pedometer An instrument that records the distance a person covers on foot by responding to the body motion at each step.
stoma An artificial permanent opening, especially in the abdominal wall, made in surgical procedures.
test strip Specificaly designed strip with reagent used to measure blood glucose.
urostomy An ostomy for the elimination of urine from the body.
