TermDefinition
Validity The extent to which a test measures what it is supposed to
Content Validity The extent to which a test samples the behavior that is of interest
Predictive Validity The success with which a test predicts the behavior its designed to predict
Criterion The behavior a test is designed to predict
Reliability A test yields the same results over time
Test re-test Take test multiple times to test the reliability
Split-half Divides test in half of even and odd numbers. Take the even number test first, then the odd numbered. This tests reliability.
Normal Curve Symmetrical, bell curve that describes the distribution of many physical and psychological attributes
Mental Retardation IQ below 70 and difficulty living independently
Down Syndrome Condition of retardation & physical disorders caused by an extra chromosome
I.Q abbreviation Intelligence Quotient
Mental Age The age that most typically corresponds to a given level of performance
Intelligence Ability to learn from experience, solve problems, and use knowledge to adapt to new situations
Intelligence Test Method for assessing an individual's mental aptitudes & comparing them with those of others
Reification Viewing an abstract, immaterial concept as if it were a concrete thing
Stanford-Binet test The widely used American revision of Binet’s original intelligence test by Terman
Analytical Intelligence assessed by intelligence tests
Creative Intelligence demonstrated in reacting adaptively to novel situations and generating novel ideas
Practical Intelligence Often required for everyday tasks with multiple solutions
