draw conclusion | to make a judgement after considering all the information is read. |
conflict | plot tension;opposition between or among characters or forces that shapes or motivates the action of the plot;problem that must be overcome by character. |
determine | to officially decide (something) especially because of evidence or facts;to establish (something)exactly or with authority;to learn or find out (something)by getting information. |
plot | story line;the story or sequence of events that describe how the conflict progresses in something such as a novel,play,or movie. |
setting | the period in time or the place in which the events of a story are said to occur ;where or when it takes place. |
mood | the atmosphere or emotions an author creates through his/her words of choice;details of setting particularly descriptive words and images used to convey the overall feeling of a literary piece. |
theme | central message;a distinct ,recurring,and unifying quality or idea. |
deductive reasoning | reasoning from the general to the particular (or from cause and effect). |
evidence | your basis for belief or disbelief;knowledge on which to base belief;detail/information from a text. |
inference | the reasoning involved in drawing a conclusion or making a logical judgement on the basis of circumstantial evidence or prior conclusions |
develop | to work out the possibilities of;develop an idea;to create or produce especially by deliberate effort over time |
cite | to mention(something)especially as an example or to support an idea or opinion |
identify | to find (recognize) something or someone and be able to give important details about who or what he, she or it is |
evaluate | to examine something carefully to decide its value or worth |
author's purpose | authors main reason for writing; an authors intention is to persuade, inform, entertain,search feelings (reflect); determines writing style |
interpret | to establish or explain the meaning or significance of something |
synthesize | to combine different ideas,influences, or objects into a new whole |
critique | review of somebody work;a written or broadcast assessment of something,usually a creative work,with comments on its good and bad qualities |
foreshadowing | be warning of;to indicate or suggest something, usually something unpleasant, that is going to happen |
