# Unit 4 Vocab

### Equations and Inequalities

Term | Definition |
---|---|

Equation | A math sentence containing variables, numbers, and at least one operation. An equation does have an equal sign. |

Inequality | A math sentence which contains one of the following symbols: >, <, ≥, ≤ |

Inverse Operations | Operations which "undo" each other. These are what you use to solve equations |

Two-step equation | An equation which has two operations. |

> | greater than |

< | less than |

≥ | greater than or equal to OR is at least |

≤ | is less than or equal to OR is at most |

Decreased | To get smaller in size or number. |

Twice or Double | To multiply by two. |

Sum | The solution or answer to an addition problem. |

Difference | The solution or answer to a subtraction problem. |

Product | The solution or answer to a multiplication problem. |

Quotient | The solution or answer to a division problem. |

Verbal Sentence or Expression | A math sentence or phrase which is translated into an expression or equation. Another word for Verbal Phrase |

Algebraic Equation / Expression | An equation / expression with at least one variable. |

Numeric Equation / Expression | An equation / expression with only numbers. |
