Newton's Laws

Study Guide

What is Newton's first law of motion? An object in motion remains in motion and an object at rest remains at rest unless acted upon by a force.
What is inertia? Resistance to change in motion.
What is Newton's second law of motion? Acceleration is produced when unbalanced forces act on a mass.
What is acceleration? Change in speed OR motion.
What causes acceleration? Unbalanced forces
What is Newton's third law of motion? For every action there is an equal but opposite reaction.
How do you move? You push off the floor and the floor pushes back on you.
