How have the duties and responsibilities of the Administrative Office Professional/HOP changed over the past 10 or 20 years, both in the hospital and in the health office setting? more formalized *more responsibility *more education requirements
Differentiate between attributes and skill. Identify and discuss three attributes and 3 skills that are important in the health office administration. Attributes-an inborne personal quality or characteristic, professional appearance, flexibility, good judgement, approachable * Skills are learned, keyboarding, medical transcription, organizational skills.
Define professionalism, and discuss what it means for the health-care professional. *conduct appropriate to a given profession, a courteous, businesslike, respectful attitude manner & appearance. * A HOPs role is important vital and carries tremendous responsibility. * You need to practice and uphold standards rules and policies.
What is meant by the term triage? How does effective triage related to good judgment? Triage - to assess a clients need for treatment and the urgency of that need. Use good judgment to determine if a client needs to be seen sooner/urgently be able to recognize an emergency. * recognize a potential emergency and apply good judgment.
What are the main benefits of remaining calm in an emergency? control impulsive behaviour in order to respond to a variety of situations and clear thinking and applying knowledge before taking efficient and effective action
What are the main advantages of belonging to a professional organization? *support the purpose mission, and goals of the profession. *help members become involved. * keep the abreast of trends & changes *offer resources, learning materials and continuing education *promote cohesiveness and professional pride
What is the purpose of a medical office simulation component, an externship, or cooperative placement experience? *you can apply the skills you have learned in college in a practical setting, *work experience, *learn your own abilities, stregnths, and needs for improvement *to develop a level of professionalism and professional ethics
What is the recommended font, spacing, and choice of size and colour of paper when writing a resume? 10-12 point font, single spacing, 8.5x11 white or off white paper, times new roman/arial
What is the advantage to networking in respect to job search? many jobs are secured by personal recommendations and word of mouth
Compare and contrast the responsibilities and expectations of the student and the employer during a co-op or workplace experience? *Student-the right to expect that the employer will provide an experience that reflects the objectives & expectations outlined by the initial agreement *Employer-the right to expect the student involved is qualified & will abide by the workplace rules
What does working within your scope of practice mean? working within the parameters of duties and responsibilities outlined by ones professional training and skill set
