What was reborn during the Renaissance? Old ideas and discovery were reborn.
Describe how Italy’s location contributed to the beginnings of the Renaissance. Italy's location was good because it was on the water and near a lot of cities, so they traded a lot which was good.
Name and describe the three classes in the Renaissance. Nobility--wealthy, ruled over large areas of land Peasants--worked for noblemen Clergy--people of the church
What was a patron? Patrons: Businessmen who paid artists to paint. They gave the artist food and a place to live while the artist worked.
Where did artists get their money? Artist got money from the patrons. Information on patron is on another note.
What do Greece and Rome have to do with the Renaissance? Greece and Rome have to do with the Renaissance because they were the cities that the Renaissance was inspired from meaning the literature and art.
Who were the Medici? Where did they live? The Medici were a wealthy family and they lived in Florence.
What were the major accomplishments of Cosimo and Lorenzo de Medici? Some accomplishments for Cosimo and Lorenzo were that Cosimo became famous and worked with artists, and Lorenzo took over his fathers place and did what Cosimo de Medici did
Why did the popes decide to become patrons of the arts? Popes thought that people would appreciate the art that was created with the support of the church.
How did Venice become a powerful city? Venice became a powerful city because it had many fleets of ships so it was good for trade.
What experiences led Machiavelli to write The Prince? All the fighting where Machiavelli lived led him to write The Prince.
In Machiavelli’s opinion, what is the chief goal of a prince? Machiavelli said the chief goal of a prince was to stay in power.
Did Machiavelli believe that rulers should always keep their word and tell the truth? If not, what did he believe? Machiavelli thought that rulers should not keep their word and he thought they should sometimes lie and cheat and steal.
In what ways was Cesare Borgia a Machiavellian prince? Cesare Borgia was like a Machiavellian prince because betrayed people and lied and stole and did things that a Machiavellian prince would do to stay in power.
