Chap 31 Special Need

TermDefinition
Individuals with disabilities education act Requires all states provide education for children whao are developmentally delayed.
Inclusion referred to as mainstreaming or placing children with special needs in regular classrooms.
Referrals When school staff suggest a professional parents can take their child to see.
Hearning impairment This refers to a problem in one or more parts of the ear.
Articulation problems These problems are most often omissions, distortions, or substitutions of vowels or consonants or both.
Visual impairments Refers to an eye or nerve problem that prevents people from seeing normally.
Chronic health need Illness that persists over a period of time.
Asthma A chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways.
Hemophilia A genetic blood disease in which the blood cannot clot normally.
Learning disability Having a problem with one or more basic lskills of earning
Behavioral disorder A condition that affects an individual's social and emotional functions.
Autism Children with this disorder are unable to interact with others socially. They display ritual or compulsive behaviors.
Accleration The process of assigning a gifted child to a class with older students.
Enrichment When the range and depth of experiences is broadened to provide the child with special curriculum.
Gifedness Identified as having exceptional skills in different areas.
