estuary A body of water found in an area where fresh water and salt water mix.
energy transfer The transfer of energy from one organism to another through a food or web.
pollution An unwanted change in the environment.
pollutant Waste products that damage the natural balance of an ecosystem, particularly found in air, soil, or water.
recycling To create new materials from used products.
human impact The contact or effect that humans have on an environment.
deforestation The clearing, by burning or logging, of trees in a forested area
acid rain Precipitation resulting from pollution condensing into clouds and falling to Earth.
primary succession One type of biological and ecological succession that involves the growth of plant life in a newly developed are defined by rock or other minerals and either no or very little soil.
secondary succession One type of biological and ecological succession that involves the growth of plant life in an area that previously saw growth, but was destroyed for any reason.
