Solving Equations and Inequalities
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Inequality | States that two quantities either are not equal or may not be equal. Uses one of the following symbols: >, ≥, <, ≤ |
Real Number | A number that can be written as a fraction with an integer for its numerator and a nonzero integer for its denominator, a repeating or terminating decimal, or an integer. |
Coefficient | A number that is multiplied by a variable in an algebraic expression. |
Solution Set | All of the possible values for an inequality. |
Reverse | Going in or turned toward the direction opposite to that previously stated. |
Flip | Turn over. |
Basic Number Properties | Three basic properties of numbers, Associative Property, Commutative Property, and Distributive Property, that allow to rearrange to numbers to find solutions, however the solution is the same regardless of the order the numbers are arranged. |
Isolate | To set apart from others. |
More Than | A quantity meaning greater in size or amount. |
At Least | Not less than, the minimum. |
Approaching | Come near or nearer to someone or something in distance. |
At Most | Not more than. |
No More Than | Less than or equal to a quantity. |
No Less Than | More than or equal to a quantity. |
