TermDefinition
Distributive Property To multiply a sum by a number, multiply each addend of the sum by the number outside the parentheses.
Commutative Property The order in which numbers are added or multiplied does not change the sum or product.
Associative Property The way in which numbers are grouped when added or multiplied does not change the sum or product.
Additive Identity The sum of any number and 0 is the number.
Multiplicative Identity The product of any number and 1 is the number.
Inverse Operations Operations which undo each other. For example, addition and subtraction are inverse operations.
Subtraction Property of Equality If you subtract the same number from each side of an equation, the two sides remain equal.
Addition Property of Equality If you add the same number to each side of an equation, the two sides remain equal.
Coefficient The numerical factor of a term that contains a variable.
Two-Step Equations An equation that has two different operations in in it.
Function A relation in which each element of the input is paired with exactly one element of the output according to a specified rule.
Function Table A table organizing the input, rule, and output of a function.
Function Rule An expression which describes the relationship between each input and output.
