Integumentary- Skin
Skin- 1.)Provides physical and chemical-(NaCl in sweat;enzymes)barrier against pathogens 2.) controls body temp - hot= sweat, cold = shiver 3.) protects from UV-melanin 4.) Keratin- water proofs skin 5.) colleagan- gives skin elasticity
Epidermis- top layers only 1 or 2 cells thick, dead skin
Dermis- "true skin". ex; smooth muscle, nerves, blood vessels, fat cells, oil glands, sweat glands, pores, hair follicles.
4 sense receptors- hot-cold-pain-and, pressure
Digestive System- everything we do requires energy, food=energy, puts food into form cells can use.
3 basics- carbs-protein-fats
mechanical- physical change- teeth change shape- grind, tear food.
chemical- changes the food w/ acid-hydrochloric acid--enzymes,base
Pathway of Digestion- mouth, esophagus-peristalsis, stomach, small intestine-gallbladder-pancreas, (large intestine)
Mouth- food is broken down into small bits and mixed w/ saliva- made of water, mucus, and enzymes. ★carbs are broken down, complex carbs are broken down into simple sugars (glucose)
Esophogus muscular tube that connects mouth to the stomach
Peristalsis series of muscle contractions that pushes food down toward the stomach
Stomach main site protein digestion; physical digestion☚smooth muscle;chemical digestion☚gastric juice
small intestine site of lipid digestion; fat is hard to digest-gets help from gallbladder- which makes bile- a base to help digest fat
any nutrients that have been taken from food leaves and goes to blood by villi
Villi small finger like prohections that nutrients to blood. line in side wall of small intestine
(large intestine) -no digestive function -anything that is nutritional waste
