The continental shelf | is an underwater landmass which extends from a continent, resulting in an area of relatively shallow water known as a shelf sea |
The continental slope | followed by the flatter continental rise |
The continental rise | is an underwater feature found between the continental slope and the abyssal plain. |
Abyssal plain | is an underwater plain on the deep ocean floor, usually found at depths between 3000 and 6000 m |
Mid-ocean ridges | is a general term for an underwater mountain system that consists of various mountain ranges |
Rift valley | is a linear-shaped lowland between several highlands or mountain ranges created by the action of a geologic rift or fault. |
Seamounts | is a mountain rising from the ocean seafloor that does not reach to the water's surface (sea level), and thus is not an island |
Ocean trenches | are hemispheric-scale long but narrow topographic depressions of the sea floor. They are also the deepest parts of the ocean floor. |
