Periodic Table | An arrangement of elements in columns, based on a set of properties that repeat from row to row. |
Period | Is each row in the table of elements that goes horizontal. |
Group | Is each column on the periodic table. |
Periodic Law | Is the pattern of repeating properties on the periodic table. |
Atomic Mass Unit (amu) | Is defined as one-twelfth the mass of a carbon-12 atom. |
Metals | Are elements that are good conductors of electric current and heat. |
Nonmetals | Are elements that are poor conductors of heat and electric current. |
Metalloids | Are elements with properties that fall between those of metals and nonmetals. |
Transition Metals | Are elements that form a bridge between the elements on the left and elements on the right side of the table. |
Valence Electron | Is an electron that is in the highest occupied energy level of an atom. |
Alkali Metals | Are the elements in Group 1A that have a single valence electron and are extremely reactive. |
Halogens | Are the elements in Group 7A that have seven valence electrons. |
Noble Gases | Are the elements in Group 8A that are oderless and colorless. |
Alkaline Earth Metals | Are the elements in Group 2A that have 2 valence electrons and are harder than the metals in Group 1A. |
