Bodhidharma Zen patriarch
Koan verbal puzzle designed to short-circuit the workings of rational, logical mind; used to trigger satori.
Satori The Zen experience of enlightenment, a flash of insight in which the true nature of one's being is known directly
Zazen "seated meditation". The basic method of Zen Meditation traditionally practiced while seated in the lotus position in the meditation hall
Encouragment Stick Used to deliver a blow to one's back, for whenever a monk becomes sleepy or lacks concentration
