Chap 11 Reactions

QuestionAnswer
Chemical reaction A change in which one or more reactants changes into one or more products.
Reactant A starting substance in a chemical reaction.
Product. A new substance formed in a chemical reaction.
Chemical equation A concise representation of a chemical reaction.
Skeleton equation A chemical equation that does not indicate relative amounts of reactants and products.
Balanced equation An equation in which each side has the same number of atoms of each element.
Combination reaction A chemical change in which two or more substances react to form a single new substance.
Combustion reaction A chemical change in which a carbon hydrogen compound react with oxygen to form carbon dioxide and water.
Double replacement reaction A chemical change that involves an exchange of positive ions between two compounds.
Coefficient A whole number that appears in front of a formula in a balanced chemical equation.
Single replacement reaction A chemical change in which one element replaces a second element in a compound.
Decomposition reaction A chemical change in which a single compound is broken down into two or more simpler products.
