area | the number of square units needed to cover the surface enclosed which a geometric figure is rotated. |

base | any side of a parallelogram |

composition number | a number greater than 1 with more than two factors |

cubed | the product in which a number is a factor three times.two cubed is 8 because 2x2x2=8. |

defining the varable | choosing a variable to represent the input when writing a function rule |

equals sign | a symbol of equality,=. |

evaluate | to find the value of an algebraic expression by replacing variables with numerals |

exponent | in a power,the number of times the base is used as a factor.in 5 to the 3rd power, the exponent is 3.that is, 5 to the 3rd power =5x5x5. |

factor | a number that divides into a whole number with a remainder of zero |

formula | an equation that shows a relationship among certain quantities. |

function | a relationship which each element of the input is paired with exactly one element of the output according to a specified rule. |

function rule | an expression that describes the relationship between each input and output. |

function table | a table organizing the input, rule, and output of a function. |

numerical expression | a combination of numbers and operations |

order of operation | the rule that tell which operation to perform first when more than one operation is used |

power | a number that can be expressed using an exponent. the power 3 to the 2nd power is read three to the third power or three squared |

prime factorization | a composite number expressed as a product of prime numbers. |

prime number | a whole number that has exactly two unique factors, 1 and the number itself. |

solution | the value of a variable that makes an equation true. the solution of 12=x+7 is 5 |

solve | to replace a variable with a value that results in a true sentence. |

squared | a number multiplied by itself. |

variable | a symbol, usually a letter, used to represent a number. |
